Calder Way Improvement Project Phase 2 & 2A Community Update
This past week, the contractor for Phase 2 (TerraWorks) completed service connections in the buildings between South Fraser Street and South Burrowes Street.
With the completion of service connections, water and sanitary sewer work between South Fraser Street and South Burrowes Street is complete. Conduit installation between South Fraser Street and South Burrowes Street began this week and will continue into next week. The contractor will also begin restoration in the area. Calder Way from South Fraser Street to Burrowes Street remains closed to vehicular traffic.
For Phase 2A, the contractor (Glenn O. Hawbaker) continued replacing and upgrading sanitary sewer lines. New manholes have been installed, and more are scheduled to be placed next week. Hetzel Street from East College Avenue to Wilson Alley is closed to vehicular traffic. East Calder Way is also closed a few hundred feet in both directions.

Upcoming Travel Restrictions on H Alley Between West Beaver Avenue and Highland Alley
On Monday, April 6, and Tuesday, April 7, Henkels & McCoy will be occupying H Alley between West Beaver Avenue and Highland Alley to do powerline work for West Penn Power. Work will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and will cause the entire street to be closed. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution when traveling near work areas. Upcoming Travel Restrictions on South Allen Street and Waupelani Drive
On Thursday, April 2, the Borough of State College's Public Works crews will be preforming asphalt base repairs at the intersection of South Allen Street and Waupelani Drive. Work will limit Waupelani Drive to one lane as well as a lane restriction on Sout Atherton Street. Motorists traveling northbound on Sout Atherton Street will be unable to turn left onto South Allen Street and should follow the detour that will be in place. Flaggers, work area signs, and message boards will be in place to help guide traffic. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution when traveling near work areas. Whitehall Road Regional Park Bird Walk 🐦
The State College Bird Town PA Committee invites you on a spring bird walk at Whitehall Road Regional Park. 🐦 With spring migration underway, a wide variety of birds may be moving through the area. Bird enjoyers of all kinds are welcome. The walk will be slow paced and beginner friendly through one of the area’s great birding spots.

📍 Meet in the gravel lot just west of the bathrooms and playground
Expect familiar favorites like the town’s Bird of the Year, the American Robin, along with possible sightings of raptors, Northern Flicker, and several sparrows. Whether listening to birdsong, watching with the naked eye, or sharing views through binoculars, scopes, or cameras, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
Please note, a light drizzle will not stop the birds or the walk, but if there is heavy rain, the walk will be canceled.
Grass and Weeds Ordinance Reminder
The Borough of State College would like to remind the community that, starting Wednesday, April 1, grass and weeds ordinance enforcement will begin in accordance with State College Borough Code of Ordinances Chapter IX, Part C. Enforcement will continue through Saturday, October 31.
Ordinance Guidelines:
- Grass and weeds may not exceed six inches in height
- A warning will be issued for the first violation of the growing season when vegetation exceeds six inches
- Only one warning will be issued per growing season
- A $50 fine will be issued for each subsequent violation
