License Renewals
General Information
Short-Term Rental Licenses are valid for one year from the date of issuance with an opportunity to renew. The renewal application will be made available to Rentalscape users through the portal when the initial license nears expiration.
This page is intended to provide guidance for future renewal applications. All initial applications submitted through the Rentalscape portal will be considered new applications. If you previously obtained a Short-Term Rental License that has now expired, please go to the Application Process and Requirements page for access the portal link and instructions for submitting an application.
Renewal Application Requirements
All general application requirements for supporting documentation must be uploaded as part of the renewal application. Please ensure all documents reflect the appropriate dates to comply with the ordinance requirements and license term period. In addition to the general application requirements, renewal applications must also submit an activity log of stays from the previous license period.

Short-Term Rental Activity Documentation | Applicants must submit an activity log of stays for previous license period. The log must include the number of nights rented for short-term rental activity, the number of individuals occupying the property, and the number of cars parked at the property by the short-term rental tenants for reach rental booking. The renewal application will be automatically denied if number of days of short-term rental stays exceeds the maximum allowable as permitted by the ordinance. |
General Application Requirements | |
Deed | If you do not have a copy of your deed, please contact the Centre County Register of Deeds. |
Proof of Principal Place of Residence | Two (2) documents proving property is the principal place of residence for the owner or a tenant at least 8 months of the year for the term of the license. List A: Government-issued ID w/ photo | List B: Vehicle or Voter Reg, Paystub |
Parking Plan | Dimensioned drawing of off-street parking area, minimum number of parking spaces must be equal to or greater than the number of bedrooms advertised. |
Proof of Liability Insurance | Property must have liability insurance in an amount at least $100,000. |
Rental Housing Permit | Permit maintained by Centre Region Code Administration (CRCA) |
Lease Agreement (Tenant Only) | This is only required if the principal resident requirement is being met by a rental tenant instead of the owner. The lease must be current at the time of application submission. |
Application Review
All applications are reviewed by Planning Department staff for compliance with the ordinance. You will be contacted by email if the application is incomplete or requires revisions prior to approval. Please ensure the email address included with the application is checked frequently to avoid missed communications about your application.
The renewed license is valid for one year from the date of issuance with an opportunity for subsequent renewal.
Fees
The Short-Term Rental License fee is $450. Fees are due at application submission. The fee is set by Borough Council in the fee schedule.
Denial of Renewal Applications
Applications for renewal of a license may be denied on the following grounds:
- Property exceeds maximum permitted days for short-term rental stays during the license period. Violation of this section (10-906.a) of the ordinance may also result in enforcement action prior to the submission of a renewal application. Activity logs submitted with the renewal application will be reviewed for compliance with this section.
- Assignment of five or more points under Section 806 of the Centre Region Rental Housing & Building Safety Code. An owner may resubmit an application for renewal when the number of assigned points falls below five.
