Victim-Centered Intensive Case Management (VCICM) Unit
Visit www.centresafe.org for advocacy and resources.
The State College Police Department has a strong commitment to supporting and responding to the needs of victims of crime in our community. The department's mission, as well as the policies and procedures that guide our organization, illustrate our dedication to the citizens of State College and the public we serve.
A premier example of our deep commitment to community partnerships and victim services is the Victim Centered Intensive Case Management (VCICM) Unit. The VCICM Unit is a unique and focused collaboration between the State College Police Department and Centre Safe, the only community-based advocacy organization providing services to victims of intimate partner crimes in Centre County. The three-member VCICM Unit, housed in the State College Police Department, coordinates and centralizes the system response to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking throughout Centre County. The unit consists of a Legal/Field Advocate employed by Centre Safe, a Detective with State College Police, and a civilian Unit Coordinator employed by State College Police. The co-location of a community-based advocate, who maintains absolute confidentiality, within a law enforcement agency allows the unit to offer immediate outreach and individualized support to victims impacted by these crimes. Primary activities focus on connecting victims with culturally competent community-based resources and holding offenders accountable through the criminal justice system.
