Bicycling in State College

Awards & Recognition

The Borough of State College is a Bicycle Friendly Business. This recognition program, initiated by the League of American Bicyclists, recognizes employers' efforts to encourage a more bicycle-friendly atmosphere for its employees and customers. In 2016, the Borough applied for and received silver recognition for the Bicycle Friendly Business program. The program honors innovative bicycle-friendly efforts, provides technical assistance, and helps businesses foster a healthier workplace and become more socially and environmentally responsible.

The League also provided a feedback report (PDF) that outlines strategies for improving the engineering, education, encouragement, enforcement and evaluation and planning for bicycling. The Borough continues to look for ways to encourage bicycling and improve safety through programs such as the Bicycle Ambassadors, incorporating on-street bike lanes during construction projects, and providing adequate bicycle parking. The Centre Region consists of the State College Borough, Patton Township, Half-Moon Township, Ferguson Township, Harris Township, and College Township. Through a region-wide effort between the Centre Region Council of Governments and participating municipalities, the Centre Region received Bronze status for the Bicycle Friendly Community recognition program.
