Pennsylvania One Call System: Call Before You Dig
Responsibilities of a Homeowner
As a homeowner you are required to inform the utilities of any type of work involving the movement of earth with powered equipment. The person who is doing the digging should place the one call notification. If you are the homeowner and you have hired an excavator to do the work, the excavator is required by law to call to have the utility lines located by the facility owners. For more information, be sure to visit the Pennsylvania 811 website.
How Do I Place a Call?
If you are planning to dig, you will need to have the underground lines marked. Designing a project? No matter how big or small, you need to know the location of the underground lines. To place a dig notification simply dial 811 or 800-242-1776 (outside Pennsylvania).
The call center is open 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year.
What Next?
Simply wait for the lines to be marked before excavating. State law requires a three business day notice (does not include state holidays or weekends). A business day begins at midnight and ends at 11:59:59 pm.
What is a Facility Owner?
The Borough is one of 12 facility owners who operate in State College Borough. As a facility owner, we are required to mark the lines within 3 business days of receiving notice from the Pennsylvania One Call System.
