Anti-Discrimination in Employment Ordinance

The Borough of State College prides itself on the diversity of its citizenry and the harmonious relations, which have been fostered in the Borough by a widely practiced and recognized attitude of tolerance and accommodation. The purpose of the Anti-Discrimination in Employment Ordinance is to ensure that all persons are afforded equal opportunities for employment.

Unlawful Discriminatory Practices

The Anti-Discrimination in Employment Ordinance makes it unlawful for an employer located within State College Borough to refuse to hire, to discharge, or to otherwise discriminate in any other term or condition of employment because of a person's perceived:

  • Age
  • Ancestry
  • Color
  • Disability or Handicap
  • Familial Status
  • Family Responsibility
  • Gender Identity or Expression

  • Marital Status
  • National Origin
  • Race
  • Religion
  • Sex
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Use of Service Animals and/or Mechanical Aids

Filing a Complaint

If you believe you have been aggrieved by an unlawful practice prohibited by the Anti-Discrimination in Employment Ordinance, you may file a notarized complaint detailing any violations. Complaints must be written and may be filed in person at the Borough Manager's office or by mail to the Borough Manager's office or the State College Human Relations Commission within 180 days of the alleged act of discrimination. Individuals needing special accommodations because of their disabilities should notify the Borough Manager's office or the Human Relations Commission to obtain assistance with any proceeding.
