TRIAD: Seniors Program

Centre County TRIAD is a partnership among the sheriff, senior citizens, and law enforcement agencies in the county. The National TRIAD initiative was formed in 1988 by the National Sheriff's Association, American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. TRIAD's purpose is to reduce the criminal victimization of the elderly and enhance the quality of life for older community members through education, advocacy, and action.

Goals

TRIAD's goals are to identify the concerns of seniors in the community, reduce the fear of crime and victimization, heighten the awareness of law enforcement to the needs and concerns of seniors, and develop and implement solutions to problems.

History

The TRIAD cooperative agreement was signed in January 1997 at the Centre County Court House by:

  • Chiefs of police
  • District attorney
  • President judge
  • Representatives of the Office of Aging, RSVP, and AARP
  • Sheriff

Involvement

Additional agencies, businesses, and individuals are also involved in TRIAD.

Activities

TRIAD activities and programs are directed by the SA.L.T. Council, a governing body of Seniors And Law Enforcement Together. The SA.L.T. Council holds monthly meetings for TRIAD that are open to the public. All are encouraged to attend.
