Recycling keeps State College clean, lowers your trash costs, and protects our environment for future generations.
Who Manages Recycling in State College Borough?
- Non-organic materials: Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority (CCRRA)
- Organic material and compost: State College Borough (learn more about organics collection)
How to Recycle?
You can recycle through curbside collection or at drop-off locations. Some special items must be taken to drop-off sites.
1. Curbside Recycling
The following items can be placed in your curbside recycling bin:
- Mixed paper, paperboard, magazines, and newspaper (bagged and bundled together inside the red bin)
- Plastic bottles, jugs, and jars (rinsed, lids and labels accepted)
- Corrugated cardboard (flatten boxes and place beside bins)
- Glass bottles, jugs, and jars (rinsed, lids and labels accepted)
- Steel and aluminum cans and foil (rinse and remove food residue. Labels accepted.)
Special Items (drop-off only):
- Medicine (Includes drop-off location at the State College Borough Police Department)
- Miscellaneous Plastics (plastics not accepted curbside)
- Electronics
- Batteries and Bulbs (Includes drop-off location at the State College Borough Parking Department)

Curbside Recycling Schedule:
- Weekly collection on the same day as trash pickup
- Set bins out by 7:00am (or 6:00am between Memorial Day and Labor Day)

2. Drop-off Recycling (County-wide)
- Available 24/7 at county-wide locations
- Containers handle paper, cardboard, plastics, metals, and glass
