Yes, Penn State University Police and State College Police have purchased and trained police officers on Tasers, devices that use an electrical impulse to briefly immobilize violent or resisting suspects that provides a safer option for arresting individuals who are clearly at risk of harming themselves or others. The devices, commonly carried by police nationwide, will be carried by State College Police officers and Penn State University Park police officers effective February 24, 2015.
Accident reports are available at the Police Department from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please call us at (814) 234-7150 prior to coming to get the report to verify that the report has been completed and is available. There is a fee for copies of the report.
Additionally, as part of our participation in the CARFAX Police Crash Assistance program, all crash reports for State College Police Department are now available for purchase online.
No, we do not have any jail facilities at our Department. All arrested individuals are transported to the Centre County Correctional Facility located at 700 Rishel Hill Road, Bellefonte, PA 16823-1488. You can call them to ascertain if someone is in their facility at (814) 355-6794.
The Department has a house check program where officers will frequently check on your residence while you are gone. You will need to complete a Vacation Home Check Request form in the event the officers need to contact you while you are away. You can call (814) 234-7150 for more information.
The Department is committed to maintaining a professional force and, in this regard, if anyone has a complaint concerning an officer's actions, he/she is encouraged to speak with a Department representative about the incident. No one should feel that any sort of retaliation will come as a result of complaint. The department will diligently investigate the complaint.
The Department does not solicit via the telephone. Any calls by another entity should be thoroughly analyzed and double checked before donating.
