On September 7, 2015 at 10:48 PM, the State College Police responded to the intersection of North Atherton Street and Curtin Road for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle.  The preliminary investigation revealed that Joel Berger, age 27 of State College was driving southbound on North Atherton Street when he struck pedestrian Michael Eiben, age 23, who was crossing North Atherton Street in a westbound direction.  Michael Eiben, who was a Penn State student, was transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center and then life-flighted to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead.  The crash is under investigation by the State College Police Department.
