Student Home License information on its way to your mailbox
State College, PA –
Beginning Friday, March 27, owners of one- and two-family rental properties will receive an important letter in the mail detailing a new law in the Borough of State College. The new law requires an annual license for owners that operate a Student Home. Included in the mailing is a pre-paid postcard that the Borough requests the property owner complete and return. The information requested is critical to ensuring property owners are properly licensed for the continued use of their property as a Student Home.
A “Student Home” is generally defined as any living arrangement within a one-family dwelling, one-family dwelling with an apartment or two-family dwelling with persons unrelated by blood, marriage or adoption who are undergraduate or graduate students. A Student Home also includes living arrangements where the landowner(s) or landowner’s family members are residents of the dwelling unit. The new law requires such Student Homes to annually renew a license and be inspected on the same cycle as their rental permit inspection.
