On September 24, 2016 at 11:31 PM, The State College Police responded to the intersection of D Alley and Wren Alley for a report of an unconscious male. Officers located a 19 year old University of Massachusetts student who was extremely intoxicated. The student was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center where he aspirated and stopped breathing. The student was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where he was placed on a ventilator. The investigation revealed the student was binge drinking vodka and had a blood alcohol concentration of .490% which is beyond the range of lethal alcohol poisoning. The student was successfully resuscitated and transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit. It is believed he will make a full recovery.
The State College Police Source Investigation Project (SIP) continues to educate students and other community residents about alcohol related laws. In addition, the Project remains vigilant in enforcing all alcohol related laws such as DUI, underage drinking, public drunkenness and furnishing alcohol to minors.
