FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 17, 2016
This is an update to a press release distributed yesterday (February 16, 2016)
The State College Police took a report from a victim who reported that her wallet was taken from a CATA bus that she took to the Nittany Mall on February 13, 2016. The wallet owner exited the bus and just off the bus realized she left her wallet on the bus. When she returned to the bus, her wallet was missing.
The State College Police Department distributed photos yesterday in an attempt to identify the two females who were observed on video involved in taking the wallet from the bus. Yesterday afternoon (February 16, 2016), one of the two females contacted the State College Police Department reporting she and her friend were the ones who took the wallet from the bus. The female advised they took the wallet in order to give it to Mall security so it could be returned to the owner. The females advised they went into the Nittany Mall and turned the wallet over to a mall custodian. The State College Police Department was not contacted by Mall security advising they had the wallet. Mall security was contacted by the State College Police Department late yesterday (February 16, 2016) and it was confirmed they did in fact have the victim’s wallet. According to the victim, the wallet should have contained approximately $40 and $60 in cash which was not in the wallet when police obtained it today (February 17, 2016). The investigation into this matter continues.
We are urging anyone who may have information regarding this incident to contact the State College Police Department at (814) 234-7150, by email or submit an anonymous tip through our website.
