The Borough of State College prides itself on the diversity of its citizenry and the harmonious relations, which have been fostered in the Borough by a widely practiced and recognized attitude of tolerance and accommodation. The purpose the Anti-Discrimination in Employment Ordinance is to ensure that all persons are afforded equal opportunities for employment.
Unlawful Discriminatory Practices
The Anti-Discrimination in Employment Ordinance makes it unlawful for an employer located within State College Borough to refuse to hire, to discharge, or to otherwise discriminate in any other term or condition of employment because of a person’s perceived:
Gender Identity or Expression,
Disability or Handicap,
Use of Service Animals and/or Mechanical Aids.
Filing a Complaint
If you believe you have been aggrieved by an unlawful practice prohibited by the Anti-Discrimination in Employment Ordinance, you may file a notarized complaint detailing any violations. Complaints must be written and may be filed in person at the Borough Manager’s office or by mail to the Borough Manager’s office or the State College Human Relations Commission within 180 days of the alleged act of discrimination. Individuals needing special accommodations because of their disabilities should notify the Borough Manager’s office or the Human Relations Commission to obtain assistance with any proceeding.
